Code Dependents Anonymous 12 Step Program for Developers
—by Ellen Sander Steps to Coding Serenity Step 1: Admit that you are powerless over the obsession with making things work your way. Step 2: Believe that a computer faster than the one you now have can restore you to sanity. Step 3: Make a decision to turn yourself over to the operating system of your choice. Step 4: Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of your software and hardware. Step 5: Admit to yourself and to no one else the exact nature of your fear of memory management. Step 6: Be ready to have to have documentation remove these defects of character and design. Step 7: Humbly reconfigure your environment to remove the shortcomings of your ignorance. Step 8: Make a list of all the unregistered tools you have cursed and be prepared to make amends. Step 9: Make direct amends, where possible, to those exact tools and then pay for them. Step 10: Continue to maintain your inventory and where you were wrong share your chagrin with other Code Dependents. Step 11: Seek through prayer and meditation to understand what you need to know without stress. Step 12: Learn what thirteenth stepping is and do it often.
